How does it work?
At one metre depth, the average soil temperature in the UK remains constantly between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius. The “ground loop” is a pipe, buried in your garden at this depth and filled with a mixture of water and glycol. The mixture is at low temperature and is gently warmed by the surrounding soil as it is pumped through the pipe. The heat pump only needs an increase of a few degrees in the temperature of the water mix to feed the central heating radiators or underfloor heating pipes and your hot water tank.
